Chenowith Water PUD is in the process of replacing the water mains going down 8th and 9th St.  These two streets are dead ended off of Snipes St.   The PUD has experienced many leaks down these two streets and has had the projects in the Master Plan to be replaced.

Tenneson Engineering has completed the survey work as well as the plans for the projects.  The work will consist of new 6 inch C-900 PVC line down both 8th and 9th.

On the 8th St. project, there will be a fire hydrant installed at the end that has 2 line spouts and 1 pumper nozzle.  Once the main line is installed it will be flushed, disinfected, flushed again, pressure tested, sampled, and then sampled the following day of the first sample.  When the PUD receives word that the samples come back negative for bac-T’s the new mainline will be opened to the system.  The new service lines will consist of blue municipex that has become a standard in the District for service line replacement.  The project calls for new meter setters that hold the meters and new traffic rated boxes to protect the meters.  The attachment to the customer’s side of the meter will be connected to the setters with industry standard parts.  Once the project is complete the road work will be patched up where needed.  The crew will clean up the job site and leave the way they arrived.

The Chenowith Water PUD Crew has it planned to get underway on 8th St. first.  The start date will be in the beginning of May 2016.  Once they are done with 8th St. they will be moving on to 9th St. Starting of the project will consist of a hot tap on the Snipes main in the intersection of 8th and Snipes St.  Once the hot tap is done the crew can start installing the new line.

The crew has finished mainline installation, service line installation, back filling, and started on road patching.  This project went very well, the crew found a under surface leak at the end of 8th St. that had been going on for a while.  We are always working to find and fix leaks since that adds to our unaccounted for water.  Water that is unaccounted for is a cost to the District and also a conservation issue.  It is a proud thing to replace a line and find a leak on it as well.   They should be done by the end of June and starting to think about starting 9th sometime in July/August 2016.

On the 9th St. project, there will be a 2 inch blow-off installed at the end of the street.  The blow off is designed to flush the dead end line but not act as a fire suppression device.  Once the main line is installed it will be flushed, disinfected, flushed again, pressure tested, sampled, and then sampled the following day of the first sample.  When the PUD receives word that the samples come back negative for bac-T’s the new mainline will be opened to the system.
